Operations Manager

What makes a good Operations Manager

  • Experience is non-negotiable — without it, the role cannot be done. Many judgements (travel times, what "complete" means) are not written down anywhere; you just know them.
  • Precision and method in checking and in execution.
  • Communication and diplomacy — the relationship with the travel agent is central.
  • Common sense and the traveller's perspective — the ability to see that a technically completed field can still leave the person on the ground stranded.
  • Humility instead of presumption — when in doubt, ask and check: with the driver, the guide, colleagues, the supplier or the official source. Asking is not a sign of weakness; assuming is.
